Photographers Narrative

Sometimes the story you intend to capture isn’t the one that stands out. I was almost done completing a picture story of a maintainer when I saw this solitary pilot walking back to the squadron; the weight of a long mission visible in his stride.  I wanted an image that captures the physical and emotional responsibilities pilots are expected to shoulder within the military.  By getting a low angle and centering the subject as he walked away, I wanted to also show the emptiness and loneliness of the flight line after a long day of flying.
