Photographers Narrative

The greatest honor I've had to give back to my brothers and sisters who have served is being able to tell the stories of veterans who have passed away. The open arms I've received from every family at first were a surprise to me. My biggest fear was being in the way or tainting their last moments with their fallen loved one. Instead, each family was grateful that I took the time out of my day to take these photos for them. It has never gotten any easier as I've continued to shoot the events. Feeling what the family feels, feeling the loss of a loved one and at times laughing because you cherish the good times they shared leaves me feeling more exhausted than running a marathon. At the end of the day, it's worth it.  What I am able to provide them isn't closure but a continuation of memories.
