Photographers Narrative

Beauty in a dangerous situation, this landscape was a beautiful scene that many people don’t get to see.  It’s my responsibility to give the world those pictures.  With roadside improvised explosive devices and snow covered ground making travel in Afghanistan extremely dangerous, members of the 816th Expeditionary Airlift Squadron were tasked to deliver much needed supplies to a remote forward operating base.  Who would think that such beauty could be so dangerous?  Wanting to make sure that the U.S. Army Soldiers received the much needed supplies, Staff Sergeant Christopher Bankston, loadmaster, watched as the air delivery cargo was released from a C-17 Globemaster III in the early morning sunshine ensuring the cargo hit the intended drop zone and soldiers would be able to retrieve the cargo.
