Photographer's Narrative

This image was taken during a training mission at Marine Corp Air Station Miramar, Calif. A Navy Seal group was using our aircraft to get their jump hours in, and we asked if we could document it. They said only way that we could use any of the images is if we kept them silhouetted so to disguise the identity of the personnel. I took that to heart and followed the last guy as he jumped out. I kept my settings exposed for the water instead of the inside of the aircraft to make sure the jumper was silhouetted. When he jumped it felt like he hovered there for a second, and I was able to capture him just as he took flight.
