A little about Me

Staff Sergeant Bonnie Gheen joined the Air Force in 2007 as a currently serves as an Information Manager and currently serves in the commander’s support staff providing office support. In April 2016 she deployed to Bagram, Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom when she suf-fered a stroke shortly after arriving in country. Despite the setback she has maintained a positive attitude saying, “I’m still here! I still can’t believe I made it this far. I might have my limitations but I am here to prove that I am not broken and that anything is possible.” She says she was scared following her stroke, suffering limitations that led to her avoiding everything. Now she is focusing on what she can do which helped her during the Air Force Trials where she took home medals in cycling and field. She said, “I realized that focusing on what I can do and not what I can’t do has elevated my competi-tive spirit. Instead of avoidance I have embraced active open-mindedness.”
