Photographer's Narrative

Scott Casimiro is a wounded warrior and former Marine Sergeant. He has a prosthetic eye with a gold Eagle, Globe, and Anchor. Throughout the entire race, I tried to capture a portrait that would honor the commitment of someone who would wear such a prosthetic. During the very last obstacle, I noticed mud smeared across his face as he firemen-carried a teammate to the finish line. I knew this was my last chance to capture a photo that would serve him justice, so I snapped away. To this day, every time I look at this photo, I think of him as the unstoppable cyborg United States Marine!
