Photographers Narrative

On January 12, 2010 a devastating earthquake struck the country of Haiti.  As a result many displaced Haitian citizens were evacuated to Homestead Air Reserve Base in Florida.  I felt that it was important to show the concern and support American Airmen provided the earthquake victims of Haiti.  In this photo Senior Airman James Jean of the 92nd Fighter Squadron jumped into action.  Fluent in French, Airman Jean volunteered countless hours to welcome and help the French speaking displaced citizens of Haiti in-process into the United States.  Airman Jean translated customs forms and helped the Haitian citizens reach out to relatives living in the United States.  Airman Jean was vital in bridging the communication gap and made sure those being evacuated were taken care of.
