A Ugandan girl along with other children rush a fence to a medical clinic 22 Oct. 2009. A couple months prior, militia’s made their way through villages burning huts to the ground and brutally murdering women and children, leaving hundreds homeless and in need of medical aid.  Thousands of people stretched down a road for the medical attention, needing water throughout the day due to cover protection from the heat produced from the hot African sun. Photographers Narrative

Families walked as far as 50 miles and waited in lines almost two miles long at times to reach the medical aid station for help. I feel the most important part of Exercise Natural Fire was the medical aid that was given to the families in need after suffering the loss of loved ones and their homes to militias not long before. I decided to walk around fenced-in medical facility to talk to families so I could learn more about where they were coming from and what had happened to them. When I came to one portion of the fence, children ran up, some happy and playful, but some irritable from heat exhaustion.
